Balsam Vanity

The design of this bathroom vanity was a collaborative effort between Bent Iron Design and a local Toronto architect. Details Include the hand-flared feet and curved front portion of the vanity, which contains a geometric detail. The vanity was formed from solid steel bar, which measures up to 3 inches in some areas. The top of the vanity was made from a beautiful speckled soapstone that compliments the bronze colour of the vanity. A dark bronze cast iron sink sits just below the surface of the stone giving the vanity an elegant flare.

King St. Office Frame

Balsam Sconces

These custom-built wall sconces were commissioned by a local Toronto architect for a new house in the Beaches. The sconces were hand carved from steel bar and include many fine details such as scrolls, collars and a hand hammered finish. Both the small and double-sided sconces are fitted with off white silk shades which fit in perfectly with the pale yellow walls.

Bloor West Security Gate

Custom designed security gate for a residential dwelling in the Bloor West area. Details include a peaked top, decorative finials, steel checker kick plate and double cylinder dead bolt lock. The gate was finished with an aluminum metallic paint.

Zoetrope

Bent Iron Design was commissioned to assit in building 3 large zoetrape machines designed by a Toronto-based artist. This device is based upon the original, however somewhat smaller pre-cinema devices. Essentially zoetropes (among the many variations of similar machines from this era) rely upon a trick of the eye that allows the rapid succession of images to be perceived as movement. Pictures are arranged within the interior of the steel drum to line up with the slats in the side. With a gentle spin of the drum (which is mounted upon a sealed bearing) the illusion of movement is complete.
